How the three-way merge decides

  • A line changed by only one side is accepted automatically.
  • A line both sides changed identically is kept once and marked as a common change.
  • A line both sides changed differently becomes a conflict, shown with both versions.
  • Insertions at different positions are combined; insertions at the same point need review.
