XML Sitemap Validator

Paste a sitemap.xml (or upload the file) to check it the way Google does: well-formed XML, the sitemaps.org namespace, absolute URLs, duplicates, lastmod dates, changefreq and priority. Everything runs in your browser - the file is never uploaded.

Checks run automatically as you type or paste.

What is checked

  • Well-formed XML and a valid parser result.
  • <urlset> or <sitemapindex> root with the sitemaps.org namespace.
  • Every entry has an absolute http(s) URL with no spaces.
  • Duplicate URLs, invalid lastmod dates and missing timezones.
  • Allowed changefreq values and a priority between 0 and 1.
  • The 50,000 URL / 50 MB per-file limits.

Next steps

  1. Fix every error - Google ignores sitemaps it cannot parse.
  2. Upload sitemap.xml to your domain root.
  3. Add Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml to robots.txt.
  4. Submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Frequently asked questions

Is my sitemap uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and validation happen entirely in this browser tab.

Does a sitemap guarantee indexing?

No. A valid sitemap helps discovery, but Google still decides what to crawl and index. Make sure the URLs return 200, are canonical, and are not blocked by robots.txt or a noindex tag.

What about a sitemap index?

Sitemap indexes are supported: each <sitemap> entry is checked for a valid <loc> and duplicates, with lastmod validated when present.
